The search for YES! Taco, settling for Shaw’s Burgers

As a new member of the downtown Fort Worth community, I’ve been anxious to find out where the best places to eat are located. Although Matt and I are on a budget until we get settled in and securely employed, we’ve still got enough wiggle room to have a few meals away from home.

We heard about YES! Taco on Friday evening, because one of our neighbors works for the recently started mobile enterprise. So, when we woke up on Saturday morning with little in our fridge to make breakfast with, it seemed like a good idea to go support our new friends and local business.

As Matt and I headed out of our apartment complex on our bikes to find breakfast, I discovered something else about our new home: potholes. I was distracted by looking around and not down. Thus, I’ve had my first (but probably not last) ungraceful fall off my bike in Fort Worth. Stupid pothole.

Much to our disappointment, we did not find the YES! Taco vehicle. We found out later that they aren’t open on weekends, at least not yet. We settled for Shaw’s Burgers, which was nearby. We arrived just as they opened.

I ended up getting the SHAWsauge Dog. It was andouille sausage, grilled onions, mozzarella cheese and sun dried tomatoes. Pretty yummy, if you ask me. Matt got the guacamole bacon burger, which he also enjoyed. The service was great since we were one of only a handful of other guests, and the food was piping hot since we were the first to be served that day. I think the only qualm I had with the place was price. It wasn’t overpriced, but it’s not the kind of place we can afford to frequent. Check out their menu to see for yourself.

I’m kind of hoping to find a place to get relatively inexpensive but totally delicious food. In Lubbock, we had the Red Zone (formerly known as Tech Cafe). They had an amazing grilled chicken salads for around $7 and weekly specials on some of my southern favorites, like chicken fried steak.

If you’re reading this and thinking of a place we should try, please let me know by commenting. I’d love to hear what other people have to suggest.
